SRV will build a multipurpose arena in Hangonsilta, Hyvinkää – the project will begin with a development phase

SRV and the City of Hyvinkää have signed an agreement for the construction of a multipurpose arena in Hangonsilta. The project will be implemented as a collaborative project management contract. The total cost estimate is EUR 45.6 million, of which SRV’s contract accounts for EUR 32–40 million. The project will be implemented as a joint venture between the City of Hyvinkää and Laurea University of Applied Sciences.

The project will begin with a development phase and will be transferred to SRV’s order backlog when construction begins, which is currently scheduled for spring 2025. This project will further strengthen SRV’s leading position in collaborative contracting.

A multipurpose arena for sports, exercise and events will be built in Hyvinkää, as well as new facilities for the Hyvinkää campus of Laurea University of Applied Sciences. Restaurants and other premises will also be built to support these activities.  The project’s preliminary scope is approximately 13,000 square metres (gross), of which the multipurpose arena will account for about 9,800 and the higher education premises for about 3,200.

During the development phase lasting about six months, the parties will work together to find the implementation solutions that would best meet the project’s objectives. The project’s total cost and timetable will also be defined in more detail during the development phase. According to current plans, the project should be completed by the end of 2026.

“We’re very keen to get started on Hyvinkää Arena. We believe that the selected model – a two-phase collaborative project management contract – is ideal for a project such as this with a broad range of user groups and varied needs for space,” says SRV’s Kimmo Hyry, Unit Director, Business Premises, Helsinki Metropolitan Area. “In recent years, we’ve built several different multipurpose halls, such as a sports hall for Matinkylä High School and the Satama Arena in Kotka, which can also be used for sports events when necessary. Nokia Arena in Tampere is a multipurpose venue that can even serve as a stage for international events. SRV is also developing an arena project in Ratapiha, a brand-new district in Turku.”

Hyvinkää Arena is the city of Hyvinkää’s most significant investment in the development of event organisation and other recreational activities. Its primary purpose is to serve as a venue for sports, exercise and events, which includes enabling school sports, hobbies and competitive sport. The multipurpose arena will also be used as a sports hall for the city’s other schools and daycare centres.

“The arena project is important for vitality and urban development. It will significantly increase the appeal of both the city centre and Hyvinkää as a northern centre in the metropolitan area. The project has strategic significance for the whole of Hyvinkää. We’ve been preparing to build the arena for years, and are now happy to be moving forward with SRV and Laurea University of Applied Sciences to develop and implement our future venue for sports, events and university campus facilities,” says Antti Nikkanen, Real Estate Director, City of Hyvinkää.
