SRV to implement the new premises of Kaarina Hovirinta School

The city of Kaarina has chosen SRV to implement the new building of the Hovirinta school. The value of the school project to be implemented as a total contract is EUR 13.5 million. The project will start immediately and will be recognised in SRV's order backlog in June.

The Hovirinta school will be built to replace the old already partially demolished school. The new school building will have premises for grades 1–6 and pre-school education of the Finnish-language Hovirinta school and the Swedish-language S:t Karins svenska skola -school. The two-storey school will have facilities for about 630 students. The building covers an area of approximately 6,900 gross square feet. Construction of the school building will begin with earthworks in the summer of 2020 and will be completed in 2022.

“SRV has several significant school projects underway throughout Finland. We are looking forward to implementing a modern, functional learning environment in Kaarina for the city's children and youth. We have successfully carried out several school projects, such as the Kurittula school in Masku, and the Jätkäsaari and Lauttasaari schools in Helsinki, all completed last year. We are also currently building schools in Siuntio, Kirkkonummi, Leppävaara and Tapiola in Espoo as well as Maunula in Helsinki,” says Heikki Kallio, SRV's Regional Director for Southwest Finland.

The goal of the construction project is to create a learning and working environment that is safe, healthy, acoustically well-functioning and multifunctional. The new spaces emphasize comfort, aesthetics, ergonomics and sensory friendliness designed to support alertness and reduce stress and restlessness.

“The previous new school in Kaarina was built 15 years ago, and a lot has changed particularly within the school world since then. Multi-functionality for the new Hovirinta school has been sought with the help of opening transferable walls and sliding doors. By inviting users to participate in design, we aimed to create an easy-to-perceive and adaptable learning environment. The new curricula has had a significant impact on today’s school construction. The facilities must be suitable for a wide range of activities and be easily adaptable. In this way, they will also serve changing user groups and usage needs in the future. However, in the architecture and structural solutions of the building, efforts have been made to adhere to proven solutions,” says Markku Leinonen, the development manager of the city of Kaarina.
