SRV starts the basic renovation of operating theatres at HUS Jorvi Hospital
Work on the basic renovation of Surgical Department K and the premises under it at Jorvi Hospital will be initiated now that the HUS Council has taken its decision on the implementation phase of the project. The basic renovation is scheduled for completion in spring 2023. Following the decision to start implementation, SRV will recognise the basic renovation project of Jorvi operating theatres in its order backlog in June at a target budget of about EUR 39 million.
The project management contract was signed in March, at which time a three-month development phase was started. The contract was signed by SRV and HUS Real Estate.
During the development phase, progress was made on the repair plans and both preparatory work for the project and the construction of provisional premises were initiated. The demolition phase will begin in autumn 2020 and will continue until the end of spring 2021. The entire site will be weatherproofed, thanks to which the frame and interior construction work phases can overlap.
The basic renovation of Jorvi Hospital will be carried out as a cooperative project management contract. This implementation method provides a good starting point for cooperation. Qualitative, schedule and cost objectives are set for SRV.
“The Jorvi basic renovation project is steered by our top experts in hospital construction. The basic renovation will be carried out inside an operational hospital – the work will be performed with great care and safety, taking hospital operations into account. We have successfully carried out many other projects with HUS in recent years. We’re currently building the largest project in HUS’s history, the Bridge Hospital in Meilahti, Helsinki,” says Juha Toimela, Executive Vice President, SRV.
The basic renovation project covers a gross floor area of about 10,492 square metres. The project will modernise the premises of the anaesthesia and surgical department, heart centre and laboratory. The basic renovation includes the partial renovation and alteration of a section of the Jorvi Hospital that was completed in 1976 as well as the implementation of the required provisional premises. The basic renovation seeks to enhance the efficiency of operating theatres and ensure that all new operating theatres will be suitable for the treatment of all patient groups. After the works are complete, Jorvi will have 20 operating theatres.
“SRV has strong experience in the construction of healthcare facilities and demanding special premises around Finland. The New Children ’s Hospital was completed in Helsinki two years ago. New buildings for TAYS Front Yard were completed in Tampere last autumn. Construction of Hospital Nova is currently under way in Jyväskylä and will be completed this year. In Kirkkonummi, the construction of a wellness centre is ongoing,” adds Toimela.
