New Vantaa Main Police Station and Vantaa Prison to be built in Jokiniemi
The construction of the new Vantaa Main Police Station and Vantaa Prison is progressing in Jokiniemi, Vantaa. SRV and Senate Properties signed the agreement to implement the Vantaa Main Police Station and Vantaa Prison in June 2022.
The project is being implemented under a spearhead alliance project model, and the total cost estimate is around EUR 86 million, of which the value of SRV’s contract is around EUR 77 million. EUR 17 million of the project was recognised in SRV’s order backlog in June 2022. The remainder, EUR 60 million, will be recognised in the order backlog in November 2022.
Construction of the Vantaa Prison began in late summer 2022 and the construction of the Vantaa Main Police Station in autumn 2022. Earthworks are currently under way on the plot.
“SRV has previously worked with Senate Properties on several demanding security-classified projects. We are currently also building a new main police station and prison in Oulu. Senate’s spearhead alliance project model is an excellent example of an approach to collaborative contracting that enables the efficient and flexible implementation of demanding projects,” says Marko Räisänen, SRV’s Unit Director, Business Premises in the Helsinki metropolitan area.
The main police station that is under construction will be used by the Eastern Uusimaa Police Department. Most of the services of the Vantaa Police will be centralised there. The design, construction and maintenance of both the main police station and prison take the principles of sustainable development into account. The project’s environmental and lifecycle targets have been set on the basis on Finnish national RTS Environmental Classification, which measures the environmental efficiency of construction.
“Upon its completion, the Vantaa Main Police Station will be the first large new main police station with a modular design in line with the new police building concept – it will be the most modern police facility in the country in its size class. These premises are designed and implemented to support the operations of the police, customer service and modern ways of working,” says Johanna Virsu, Construction Management Expert Group Manager, Senate Properties.
The prison is scheduled for completion towards the end of 2023 and the main police station in autumn 2024. The total area of the police station and prison will be about 19,800 square metres (gross).
Senate Properties is the client and developer of the project – the company is responsible for the construction, maintenance and development of the state’s properties and work environments. In its operations, Senate Properties complies with the state ’s cost price-based lease system, in which rents are used to cover property investments, maintenance and other related costs.
